How to Make a Leather Sword Sheath - Part 2

In this part of the tutorial we start making the sword sheath. I am using Sting for my sheath. But you would of course use the sword or knife of your choice.

Will has a youtube channel with over 700 videos on projects you can make. Check it out right here

Measure the leather

Place the sword on your leather sheet and trace around it, leaving roughly 3/4 inch all the way around it. Then lay it to the side of that tracing and trace it again so the two drawings meet along one side.

About the leather. It is two sided. And one side is a bit nice than the other side. You want that nicer side to be the outside of the sheath. So keep this in mind when you are folding the leather over and stitching it.

Notice the center line

Ok, the shape is traced and it looks good. You are going to cut this shape out. Don't cut along that center line (I have darkened it for you to see).

Insure it fits

There you go, it looks good. The sword fits nicely with a little bit of extra all the way around.

Fold over the leather

Fold it over just to test it and see if it fits.

Now we need to stitch it up.

NextLet's stitch up the leather sheath
