Make a plastic Tank model and diorama -Part 2

In this part of the tutorial we assemble the soldiers, paint everything up and add the decals.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

The plastic soldiers

Another fun part of this particular kit is that it also has soldiers that need to be assembled. This includes a mortar and a variety of little weapons.

Glue these all together. The instructions show you how.

Painting the tank

Once you have it all assembled you can go ahead and paint it. The instructions give you the recommended colors if you want to stay with the official colors that the actual military vehicle was.

I typically paint the large areas of the vehicle first.

Painting the smaller details

Then I move onto the smaller details like the gun barrels and this track wheel.

Painting the wheel

Some people prefer to do a lot of painting of the parts while they are still on the sprue. It makes it easier to reach around the part and get the detail painting of it. But gluing later on can smudge the paint and it might need to be touched up after.

Cut out the decals

Once the paint has dried it is time to apply the decals. They come all together on one small sheet. You cut the decals off the sheet one at a time.

Soak decals in water

Soak the decal in water until the paper backing becomes water logged and the decal can easily be slid off.

Apply Decal

Then gently slide the decal off the paper and onto the correct location on the tank. The instruction sheet shows you where each decal goes.

Dry the decal

Then blot the decal very gently with a cotton swab until the excess moisture is removed.

Ok! The Model is completed. Now let's make a quick easy diorama for it!
