Make an Indian Sikh Dagger out of foamboard

This is a tutorial on how to make a Sikh curved dagger out of foamboard. I give you the template which makes it very easy for you. Fun and easy project.

And, I also have a picture of the dagger that I bought and modeled this project after.

If you came here from youtube thanks! Give me a day to finish this tutorial. But I do have the template ready:

The Template is right here

I have a video tutorial on this project at the bottom of the page.

Here is the dagger we make in this tutorial.

The foam board dagger

And here is the original one we modeled it after.

Print the template

OK! Let's make this project. Print up the template (It is right here). And use it to trace the shapes onto the foamboard.

Trace onto foam board

You do this by pressing down firmly on the template with a pencil, drawing all the lines. This causes a depression in the foamboard.

Darken the lines

Then you remove the template. You can see the lines in the foamboard. Go ahead and draw them with a pencil or pen. You end up with Seven pieces.

Cut out the pieces

Go ahead and cut those pieces out. The most difficult one is this one here called "the spacer".

Will

Will's Tip on Cutting Foam board: Don't try to cut all the way through it in one swipe. Use a really sharp blade and make three passes. the first pass just cuts the top layer of paper. Second pass cuts the foam and the third pass cuts through the bottom layer of foam.

Okay! Let's Put this knife together!!!

Start gluing

Take one of the sheath pieces and glue the spacer down to it.

Glue on cover

Then glue the second sheath piece onto that.

The sheath gap

Now you have the sheath. See how there is a nice slot for the knife to slide into.

Glue on the handle

Now glue the handle pieces onto the knife blade piece. Glue one on each side.

Looks good

They look good!

Try the fit

Now test it for a good fit. Try sliding the dagger into the sheath. If it doesn't fit or it is too tight trim down the dagger a bit.

Sand the edges smooth

Now sand it smooth with a bit of emory paper or sand paper. No need to sand the flat surfaces. Sand the edges so everything is smooth and the separate pieces become as one piece.

Cut in half

Ok, final step in the making portion of this project. Take the long horizontal piece and cut it in half like this. We are making it thinner.

Add a strip

Wrap that band around the dagger right at the point where the knife meets the sheath. And glue it to the sheath part. Don't get any glue on the dagger part or you won't be able to open it. I made this piece a little long in the template so you can adjust it as needed. Wrap it around and trim it to the size you need.

NextOk, the building is done. Let's add the ornamental designs and paint this dagger

Jambiya

The Jambiya is simple, yet stylish, and suraces in many countries. Made to wear under a belt or sash, this piece features a hardwood grip in an hour-glass shape with decorative rondels. It is also accompanied by a black leather scabbard with nickel tip. Boasting of authentic design, this is a great addition to any collection.
