Make Foam Armor Greaves part 3

In this part of the tutorial we do the detail craft foam work and the painting. I show you what techique to use so it looks like metal.

Part 1 of this tutorial is here

Apply adhesive to detail work

I measured and cut this piece of craft foam as detail work to go on the front of the greave. I applied spray adhesive to it.

Apply the detail work to the greave

Then I applied it to the greave.

And you can see here I also measured and cut a scallop shape for the top of the greave.

Ok! It looks good. You can do the same design as me or you can make up your own design. Once the design is applied and done use a hot glue gun, set on low, to add dollops of glue as rivets.

Mod podge

Let's paint it. And we are going to do it in a way that makes it look like metal. First start by painting the pieces with a thick layer of mod podge.

Paint it black

Then paint them with a nice coat of black acrylic paint.

Cover the velcro

Once the paint dries cover up the velcro on the small piece. Do this with some tape. This way we don't paint on the velcro. No need to cover the velcro on the large piece unless you plan on painting the inside of greave which isn't really necessary.

Spray paint it silver

Spray paint it with a metallic silver paint. Do it in even strokes. Not too thick. You might want to practice a few times on scrap foam. This will help you get a nice even coat that looks like metal. But after the mod podge and black it is very easy to achieve.

They look great

They look good!

That's it! Put the two halves together and you have a great looking greave.

Assemble the greave

Craft foam gauntlet

Make Gauntlets out of Craft Foam

Yup! that is craft foam and these gauntlets look terrific. I show you how to make them and I also give you the template which makes it so easy. Print up the template, cut out the pieces and then trace onto craft foam. I have a video tutorial too. Make Gauntlets out of craft foam
