Make Majora's Mask - Part 2: Paper Mache

 

In this part of the tutorial we continue making the mask, including the paper mache.

Let's Paper Mache the Mask

Add paper mache ingredients

Paper mache is very easy! In a bowl mix two cups of flour, two cups of water and a table spoon of salt.

 

Mix until creamy

And stir it until is has a nice creamy consistency.

 

Cut strips of newspaper

Cut yourself a bunch of newspaper strips like this. Around 1 1/2 inches wide. Roughly, it is not critical.

 

Apply paper mache to mask

Dip a strip in the paper mache mix, wipe off the excess and then affix it to the mask. Do lots of strips, overlap them and orient them in different directions. Do the whole mask, this side and the other.

 

Looks good

Looking pretty good. Notice lots of overlap and different directions of the paper mache. We have already done the other side. Now we just have to do the points.

 

Allow it to dry

Once you are done, set the mask aside and let it dry overnight. Put a fan on it and it will dry much much faster.

During drying it is going to curve a little bit. That is terrific! The curve means it will be more comfortable on your face.
