Make the DragonGlass Dagger from Game of Thrones

This is a tutorial showing you how to make the DragonGlass dagger from Game of Thrones. It is a fun and very easy project that you can do in about two hours. And we use a unique product called InstaMorph. It is a moldable plastic that you heat in water and shape. And you can reheat it and reshape it as many times as you want.

Will has a youtube channel with over 700 videos on projects you can make. Check it out right here

Here is the Dragon Glass Dagger that we make in this tutorial:

Materials used for this project:

  • 1 container of Insta-Morph Plastic
  • 1 black dye packet
  • Some twine or string to wrap the handle ( you can use cloth, leather or something else)
  • Stove to heat a pan of water and a thermometer so you can get the temperature to 140 degrees F (60 Celsius)

Here is the exact Insta-Morph that I bought for this project, and the dye pellets:

Using instamorph

Note from Will: This stuff is quite amazing. You can shape it into almost anything at all - not just a dagger! Be creative and have fun with it. And you really can't make a mistake because you can just reheat it and start over.

Will's Tips on Creativity Are you interested in the creative process and how a project like this comes about? I have a little bit about developing this project right here. The Creativity of the Dragon Glass Dagger

Let's Get Started!

do some sketches

The first thing you should do is sketch out your dagger. You can do quick sketches and get the overall look of what you want. And make it to the actual scale and size that you want. This way as you are molding the plastic you can compare it to the drawing.

Check the temperature of the water

Heat a pan of water to 140 degrees fahrenheit (60C). This is a low temp, keep the fire very low.

Pour in insta morph

And pour in the beads. I used the whole container which is 12 ounces. This turns out to be more than I need and that is quite ok. We will trim it down to size later.

Add some pigment pellets

At this point, if you have some, you can add some pigment pellets. You can also add more later if needed.

REmove it from the water

In less than two minutes those pellets will turn clear and the whole thing will bind together. You can then pull it out.

Mold the instamorph

Shake off the excess water and you can immediately start shaping it.
