Make the White Walker Spear Part 2

In this part of the tutorial we make the spear handle.

Part 1 of this tutorial (the beginning) is here

Drill the dowel

You have a lot of options when it comes to the handle of the spear. You can even cut off a rake handle or a broom handle or something similar. I went through the racks at the Home Depot. They have lots of replacement handles. I found one that was crooked. Not very straight at all. That was a score for me! Nobody wants a crooked rake handle so it was probably in the racks for years!

I cut off the rounded end.

The drilled hole

Drill a quarter inch hole one inch from the end of the handle.

Then cut a slot from the end to that hole. It is about a quarter inch wide slot. Same as the hole. We will fit the spear tip into this slot.

Cut a slot    The slot looks good

Then cut a tang in the spear tip. It should be about a quarter inch thick. You can do this with hand tools. You can even do this when you shape the spear tip.

Trim the spear tip   The spar tip is trimmed

Fit spear tip onto spear

Fit that tang into the slot of the handle. You can trim and sand either piece as needed.

Glue it in place

Glue the two pieces together for extra strength.

Next use your wrapping material to secure the spear tip to the handle. I used my vine covered wire but you can use any kind of material like twine or string or thin rope. Do at least one wrap in a crossed pattern like you see here.

Wrap with rustic wireThe wrapping looks good

NextLet's continue

Miniature Iron throneMake a miniature throne from Game of Thrones Yup, all those miniature swords I made in the previous tutorial are now put to use. Even though it is miniature it is still technically made from forged swords! Make the Mini Throne
