These meads are brilliant - Let me explain.

I am a mead maker. I have been making mead for many years. I have made hundreds of batches. And one of the challenges I always face when it comes to adding fruit to a mead is drawing out the flavor! It can be a bit tricky.

And this is why I was pleasantly surprised, almost amazed, by the vibrant flavor of Beacon meads. The mead maker over at Beacon Meadery has done a magical job. If you are not very familiar with mead there is a new name for it when you add fruit to it. It is called a melomel. Beacon offers three different melomels. Let me tell you a bit about each of them.

Blueberry Mead: (13% Alcohol by Volume) This one amazed me the most. It is a challenge to bring out blueberry flavor in a mead and Beacon has done it. It has a wonderful vibrant blueberry flavor. It comes in a 750ml bottle.

Black Currant:(14.5% Alcohol by Volume) Using currants in a mead is a popular choice and this mead has an excellent currant tartness to it. I really like it. This one is my favorite of the three. It comes in a 375 ml bottle.

Raspberry: (15.5% Alcohol by Volume) This is a popular choice for mead makers. Raspberries tend to give up their flavor easier than blueberries. It has a wonderful full-bodied flavor and a hint of the tannins that raspberry seeds generate. It comes in a 375 ml bottle.
