Everything about us has adapted and adjusted to this. Our bodies, our cultures, customs, habits, brains, and psychologies, have all been tuned to the small group schema.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And it works very well. In a small group everybody knows everybody. And when one or more people within the group experiences hardship everybody knows about it and everybody helps. And when somebody goes astray, by doing harmful things everybody knows about this too; and everybody can take the corrective actions that are needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">No bad actor can continue to act bad because that type of behavior needs darkness. Bad deeds need to be concealed and hidden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">In a small group there is nothing but sunlight. There is no darkness. Everybody knows what and who is going wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\"><br>The small group system is a self-correcting system. And it works pretty well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Here is what goes wrong<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Successful groups grow in size. With this growth in size the group grows in power and influence. They overwhelm and absorb smaller groups around them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">And for a period of time this is an efficiency. With larger groups you can be much more efficient with individuals. A farmers efforts can be multiplied. The same goes for a wide variety of skill sets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So, the growth continues. This is a pattern we have seen many times throughout history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">But\u2026. Here is where it eventually all goes wrong -darkness creeps in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">With larger groups of people there are lots of people who don\u2019t know lots of people. There is darkness and anonymity which means people are able to go astray without notice or corrective action. People can cheat, steal, manipulate and do other really bad things that are beneficial to them but detrimental to the group. The human traits of psychopathy can survive and even thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Eventually this large group destroys itself. It has to. Every empire falls -or should I say every empire eventually destroys itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This problem is magnified in today\u2019s world<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">With the internet there are enormously large groups of people that can stay hidden in darkness and stay anonymous. You see this effect in your life when you receive spam emails, password hacks, emotional manipulations with the goal of financial gains, identity theft, catfishing, and so much more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">These are just some of the bad actions that are going uncorrected. Because it is difficult to find out who is doing it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">This poses a terrible paradox.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"559\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stormthecastle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/medieval-army.jpg?fit=1024%2C559&amp;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-164\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stormthecastle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/medieval-army.jpg?w=1024&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stormthecastle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/medieval-army.jpg?resize=300%2C164&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stormthecastle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/medieval-army.jpg?resize=768%2C419&amp;ssl=1 768w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/stormthecastle.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/03\/medieval-army.jpg?resize=850%2C464&amp;ssl=1 850w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 640px) 100vw, 640px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">Living in small groups is how humans have been attuned to living. And it is our optimal way of living in this world. But living in a small group means you are vulnerable to those groups that manage to grow larger and hold themselves together for an extended period of time. The larger group will eventually either absorb or destroy the smaller group. It has to. Then eventually destroy itself under it\u2019s own weight.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"\">So, what do we do?
