Martin's Military Dioramas

Martin is a regular visitor to my website and he credits me as inspiration for his return to model and diorama making!

Thanks Martin!

He has been kind enough to share with us pictures and information about his dioramas.

If you are thinking about adventuring into military dioramas (or returning to the craft) then I have everything you need right here on my website!

Universal Carrier Diorama

Martin tells us about how he made this diorama:

  • The carrier and figures are Tamiya 1/35scale. A basecoat of humbrol bronze green was airbrushed on then weathered with a mixture of humbrol enamels and humbrol and Tamiya weathering powders.
  • The figures were brush painted humbrol olive drab with Tamiya flesh skin tones and highlights/shading from thinned humbrol.
  • The base was polystyrene coated with plaster of Paris and textured before dry.
  • Again base colour plus highlight and shadow from humbrol.
  • All foliage was from model railway supply.

WWI Bus with photographic background

This is an airfix Ole Bill Bus model. It is ww1 period and Martin used vintage photograph prints as a background and he painted the diorama/bus in monotone colors to blend it in with the background. Nice work! This is a great idea and technique.

Here is a black and white photo of this diorama:

And here is one in sepia tone:
