I am going to do a very loose interpretation of this concept. I don’t know much about the biblical interpretation of the dangers of graven images. Let me give you my take on this concept.
I believe we are here in this existence for a few profoundly important reasons.
First off, we are here to experience this reality as it is. It has been carefully crafted for us and for reasons not crystal clear to us.
Generally I think it is to take it in, enjoy it, and grow as souls through it; To learn, and to develop and deepen relationships with other souls.
And this is where graven images trips us up.
In my mind the term “Graven Images” represents an artificial representation of this life experience.
The beginning stages might seem harmless – just drawings. But as we are seeing in our times these images are getting more and more real. We have moved into more realistic images which includes a variety of art styles and then we have moved into photography and now into video where the images mimic reality even more closely.
We are now embedding ourselves into hyper-realistic false realities.
And with the advent of Artificial Intelligence which can create even more compelling gravens we are blurring the line between the reality we are meant to be experiencing and a false reality.
This escalation of graven images is moving us further and further away from what we, as human souls, are supposed to be experiencing.
If you do a simple extrapolation on a timeline with the fast growing capabilities of technology it is easy to see that it wont be bvery long before we are all completely plugged into this false reality ala matrix style.
It’s a deception. We are being lead down a false path.
Deuteronomy 4:16-19 ESV
Beware lest you act corruptly by making a carved image for yourselves, in the form of any figure, the likeness of male or female, the likeness of any animal that is on the earth, the likeness of any winged bird that flies in the air, the likeness of anything that creeps on the ground, the likeness of any fish that is in the water under the earth. And beware lest you raise your eyes to heaven, and when you see the sun and the moon and the stars, all the host of heaven, you be drawn away and bow down to them and serve them, things that the Lord your God has allotted to all the peoples under the whole heaven.
