This months retro movie: Forbidden Planet | |
This movie was made in 1956. Now before you click away thinking that this is one of those corny 1950's science fiction movie where guys in aluminum foil suits carrying ray guns that look like hair dryers fight off aliens that have zipper lines down their backs you should stop and read on. This is not one of those movies. Listen to me here... This movie is a masterpiece. There is no other movie like it and if you count on one hand the best science fiction movies ever made then without a doubt this is one of them. Just ignore the fact that it was made in 1956 because it doesn't matter. As a matter of fact, after you watch the movie you are going to look at the box to verify that it was indeed made in the 50's. You will read it but you still won't believe it. This is a Science Fiction "Movie"; the way Science Fiction movies are supposed to be. |

I was a teenager when I stumbled onto this movie. I was just channel surfing and popped right into it as it started. It held me mezmerized. It is well written, well acted, has great special effects and a real plot line (which is based on Shakespeare's "The Temepest". If of course also has Robby the Robot who we all know and love. |

Tangents If you really want to expand your mind you should read Shakespeare's "The Tempest". It was his last work, and considered to be one of his best. |
