Isn't it interesting that the word "if" is positioned right in the middle of the word "Life"?

More Stuff about the Meaning of Life

This area is where you can find a variety of different stuff about the meaning of life and about my quest to find the meaning of life.

The Epic of Gilgamesh- This is the oldest book known to man. It is older by a thousand years than the Iliad and the Bible. It is fitting that it probes in the question of the meaning of life. If you haven't read this book then you are missing something important in your life. Just picture it in your minds eye. This book was first inscribed on stone tablets thousands of years ago! What could more express the thread that all of humanity, through all of time, has been searching for the meaning of life? This new version is not a direct translation, it is a retelling so the language is modern and easier to understand.

There is a great book that I own and really love. It is called: "The Art of Looking Sideways" It is written by a graphic designer and it is a big hardcover book packed with so much amazing stuff about looking at things, observing things and thinking about things. This is a rare gem. There is one two page section in it that really struck me. Spread across the two pages is a picture of a hand drawn map, kind of like a flowchart. One end of the map is titled "The End of Civilization" The other end is titled: "Love of Creation and Creative Society". The map progress from right to left from bad to good.

The author tells the story of how he came across this map. This is a quote from the book:

"I was working on an exhibition abot the creative discoveries and technological inventions of the twentiety century. One day an unsavory, dishevelled stranger suddenly barged into the studio, said he'd heard about the project, wanted to be involved, slapped a diagram down on the table, and shouted at me, 'that's what it's all about,' and left. I never saw him again. This is his diagram. Maybe he was right?" -Alan Fletcher, The Art of Looking Sideways

If you are a seeker and if you want to open up your mind to a higher level of creativity then this is the one book you should get. Funny how a book on creativity ties itself into the meaning of life. This book most clearly demonstrates the way I am approaching the Search for the Meaning of Life. For me to find this answer I am going to have to look at life from different angles.

The number seven and the meaning of Life

THE SEVEN MYSTERIES

It is funny how as I am searching for The Meaning of Life I keep running across the number "7". Is it just synchronicity or is there something more to it? the meaning of life is a question that demands I keep an open mind. Let me give you some examples. (If this list gets too big I will break it out into a section all its own.

Guy Murchie has a book (A fantastic book that I own and have read several times) called "The Seven Mysteries of Life". If you want to get a science based understanding of the mysteries of life yet still be awed by the absolute enigma and mystery of it then you have got to get this book. It is simply remarkable.

THE SEVEN GREAT EGYPTIAN HERMETIC PRINCIPLES

l. The Principle of Mentalism -
"The all is mind: the universe is mental."
2. The Principle of Correspondence -
"As above, so below; as below, so above."
3. The Principle of Vibration -
"Nothing rests: everything moves: everything vibrates."
4. The Principle of Polarity -
"Everything is dual; everything has poles;
everything has its pair of opposites; like and unlike are the same;
opposites are identical in nature, but different in degree; extremes meet;
all truths are but half-truths; all paradoxes may be reconciled."
5. The Principle of Rhythm -
"Everything flows, out and in; everything
has its tides; all things rise and fall; the pendulum swing manifests
in everything; the measure of the swing to the right is the measure of
the swing to the left; rhythm compensates."
6. The Principle of Cause and Effect -
"Every cause has its effect; every effect has its cause;
everything happens according to the law; chance is but a
name for law not recognized; there are many planes of causation,
but nothing escapes the law."
7. The Principle of Gender -
"Gender is in everything; everything has its masculine
and feminine principles; gender manifests on all planes."
