This is something that has crossed my mind more than once. Is it worthwhile to invest in large amounts of forever stamps simply based on the fact that they will appreciate in value because the actual rate of postage is guaranteed to go up. But you have paid an earlier rate for the same service.

The Quick answer is NO!

Let me explain.

The cost of mailing a first class letter has actually been going down! This is because the price of stamps is strongly regulated by the government.

The cost of stamps is going up slower than inflation. So buying a stamp today is more expensive than buying a stamp in the future when you calculate inflation.
