McDonald Observatory in Texas

It is a part of the University of Texas.

The Observatory is a series of installations spread out over a small area. Your first stop is the Visitor Center.

And one of the things that struck me about traveling to this observatory is how remote it is. Located in West Texas which is quite a bit different than the regular texas, it's a long drive west from any of the major cities like San Antonio or Fort Worth. This is of course for good reason. They always get observatories away from the light pollution of cities.

It is rather remote. One of the indicators of this is that I was seeing signs that said things like No Gas Station for 100 miles! It's about 400 miles west of San Antonio.
