Make way for ducklings

I live in Massachusetts; about an hour away from Boston. I don't visit there much but upon my last visit there, on my way to Europe I decided to spend a day and a night in Boston.

You can read more about Boston and see the pictures I took around the city right here. But this little essay is about the famous book and bronze statues entitled "Make Way for Ducklings" by Robert McCloskey

Check it out on Amazon here

It's a simple, yet wonderful book about a family of ducks that make their home in Boston. The book shows us a little bit around the actual landmarks in Boston. But the big thing about the book is that it is based on a true story about a family of ducks that would cross a main street every day to go to a hotel. And the police would anticipate their arrival and stop traffic for them.

I remember reading that book as a child. The big thing for me was that it was a fiction novel based on a true story. I liked that aspect.

Well, some 50 years later I was walking through the stacks of my local library. That is something that I did hundreds of times as a child and a teenager. But life has been busy for me these past 50 years.

Now, however, I am semi-retired. And I have some time to spare. And once again, as I did all those years ago, I am walking through the stacks of my local library :)

And I just happened to chance upon "Make way for Ducklings".

I wonder where these past 50 years went?

It reminds me of a quote that you might have heard: "The days are long and the years are short".

It's true.

Here is a picture of the bronze monument in Boston:

Like I had mentioned earlier in this story I did spend a little time roaming around Boston. I have pictures and more about it right here: Will in Boston
