Here are some Spanish Guitar pieces for you to listen to. If you want to hear more classical guitar pieces go to the Listen section of this website.

  • Spanish Romance - Added Aug 16 (mp3: 1.26meg and 1min 32 secs). - Evocative and haunting piece. Challenging in that it is played all over the fretboard but played andante so reasonably easy to master. the sheet music: Spanish romance
  • Adelita by Francisco Tarrega - (mp3 711k - 45 seconds) This is a wonderfully haunting piece and one of my favorites. It has some nice sliding around on the fretboard. If you are a beginner classical/spanish guitarist you might want to add this to your repertoire. It is not too hard to play and sounds great. Purchase the sheet music: Adelita
  • Leyenda - (mp3 500k - 30 seconds) This is the first 30 seconds from this awesome Spanish piece. This piece simply rocks. The spanish guitar just blows me away! The sheet music: Leyenda

Looking for some Easy Spanish Guitar Sheet Music? Here are some nice pieces you can purchase individually at Musicnotes.com - and they are digital downloads so you can listen to the midi version and download them and start playing. :

  • Espanoletta by Gaspar Sanz Very easy piece to learn and it sounds great. It has this great feeling of being spanish and also being from the early classical period - quite unique and kind of sounds like something Mozard would have written while on vacation in Spain!. Good addition to a repertoire.
  • Recuerdos De La Alhambra By Francisco Tarrega - This is a great Spanish/classical piece. It has a wonderful sound where the melody plays through a series of 32nd notes. It is in 3/4 time and the key of C major and is easy to play except for the right hand challenge of the repeated 32nd notes. So you are going to need to practice your tremolo picking with the right hand to master this piece. Solid intermediate piece.
  • Etude 4 from 12 Etudes for the guitar by Fernando Sor - This is a right hand challenge and a solid intermediate piece. It is easy to read but you have to practice the right hand picking a lot to get it to sound smooth. If you want something that will develop smooth right hand picking this is a good piece.
  • Adelita by Francisco Tarrega - Awesome piece and one of my favorites. This is the first piece I had mastered for my repertoire.
  • Spanish romance This is a great sounding piece and is very easy to play. It is a staple of every classical guitarist.

Want a bigger challenge? Here is a more complicated piece and definitely for the intermediate classical guitarist: Leyenda I have a sample of this piece here on this webpage you can listen to.

Spanish Guitar Snippets. Here are some spanish guitar snippets that I really like

  • Alorno - (MP3 436k and 30 seconds long) This is the first 30 seconds of this piece written by Carlos Montoya - It just has a great spanish flavor to it and it does some really beautiful running around on the bass strings and it really shows off how the Spanish Guitar can make good use of triplets.

Albeniz: Spanish Classics for Guitar in Tablature (Classical Guitar)

Treasures of the Spanish Guitar

This fine solo guitar text, written in notation and tablature, offers a brilliant array of music from many centuries. Composers represented (Aguado, Tarrega, Sanz, Angurea, and others) present a colorful spectrum of the melodies, styles, moods, and temperaments that have characterized guitar music of Spain. The instrumentation on the recording is the solo classical guitar. It is a stereo recording, and it does contain every selection in the book. None of the repeats suggested in the printed scores have been taken off or put on the recording. It is up to the discretion of the individual performer to add or delete these as necessary.
