Get a Counter on your site | |

Above is a simple hit counter that I got from http://hit-counter.udub.com. See how I chose a nice style (blue) that fits in with the theme of my site. There are two important reasons why you should get a counter, or even multiple counters on your website. The first reason is for a good-feeling! It feels really great to see that people are interested in what you have on your site. And it is terrific to see the number of visitors climb. It will keep you motivated to do more work on your site. The second reason is even more important. You should put a different counter on each of your main pages. If you have a main page that leads to all the pages on a certain topic there should be a counter there. The reason for this is feedback. You get a better understanding of what people are clicking on and what pages they are going to. When they arrive at your home page you need to know where they go inside your site. Some visitors will come directly into pages deep inside your website through search results from the search engines. You would never know they were they if you only had a counter on your main page. |
Here is a sample counter that I got from www.idcounter.com. It is a hidden counter where you click on it and log in to check your statistics.

If you want to choose from lots of different free counters from different companies, with plenty of free options all you have to do is go to a search engine like google and type in "free counter" without the quotes and plenty of great hits will come up. Here are two suggestions: Simple counter that display the number of hits right on your page. Just like the one at the top of the left hand column of this page: got to http://hit-counter.udub.com If you want a hidden hit counter that only you can access, so you can get statistics on visitors, like the one at the bottom of the left hand column then I suggest this company: http://www.idcounter.com |
It is real easy to sign up. You will have to register by giving some information and your email. Then you will get a confirmation email. follow the directions then create your counter. They show you how. You just fill in some form information with stuff like the location of your website. They create some code that you will cut and paste directly into your website. The code will look something like this: |
Just be sure that you have copied and pasted every single character of the code If you miss one single letter or symbol your counter won't work. Use control+C to copy and control+V to paste. Now you can go to your webpage and be visitor number 1. |
