And now swords and sword making has gotten even more popular because of the plethora of video games that have them. Just about every fantasy RPG has lots of swords and they also usually have a crafting skill that allow you to make them.

And swords still hold a sense of awe and power about them. True that we don't need them anymore to defend ourselves in life or death situations but the appeal and the charismatic power of swords remains strong.
