The 15th century Long Sword, often called a hand-and-half, saw a great deal of service as a weapon of war, but was also employed a great deal as a civilian weapon of self- defense. Coupled with a dagger, the Long Sword was an excellent defense against robbers, thieves, footpads, assassins and even some of the robber bands that might roam the countryside. A good serviceable point allowed it to be used for thrusting, and a medium weight allowed it to be used easily and carried with equal ease. This weight also allowed it to be used with one hand with a dagger in the other. But when needed, the Long Sword could be gripped with both hands for a very powerful cut. Pommel and guard are steel. Grip is wood wrapped with leather and wire. A beautiful and very functional sword.

German Bastard Full Tang Tempered Battle Ready Hand Forged Sword *SHARP EDGE BLADE*

This sword is a perfect replica of these swords lasted from roughly 1350 to 1550, declined in the late 16th century, and they were obsolete by the early 17th century. In modern use, the term "bastard-sword" refers to a specific sort of longsword, most commonly a compromise between the smaller one-handed arming sword and larger two-handed sword that was primarily used in "cut and thrust" type of sword play. Typically, the bastard sword was heavy enough for battlefield use, while still being light enough for the quick moves found commonly in cut-and-thrust fighting and/or dueling. This compromise is accomplished by a distal taper of the blade, and a carefully balanced pommel and grip. Like many German swords it is primarily a cutting sword, with a wide blade that has a flattened oval cross section that gives very little resistance in a cutting blow. It is also a perfect example of a true hand-and-half or bastard sword. The proportions of the sword are that of a one handed sword, but with a slightly longer grip and a pommel shape that will allow two hands to be used by gripping both.
