I left Madison Wisconsin and began the long journey almost exactly west. From here it would be a pretty straight drive across half of America all the way to the west coast.

I only spent a couple of days in Iowa and I drove pretty much straight across it. But... I fell in love with Iowa. It is very beautiful. There is lots of corn and crops and lots of electric windmills.

I also fell in love with one particular little Iowa town. It is called Clermont. I was just passing through it and had to stop to look around. To me it epitomizes small town America. It is beautiful, quiet and special.

I also stopped in a VA hospital in Iowa to get a prescription filled. They were very nice and very professional.

About halfway across Iowa I spent a night in a city called Mason City.
