Make a Large Sheet of Paper for a Fantasy Map: Part 4

In this part of the tutorial we finish making the paper.

Part 1 (the beginning) of this tutorial is hereIntro text goes here

Press a sheet on top

And place a firm sheet of something right over it. Foamboard, thick cardboard, plywood or something similar. Something that doesn't have too much bend it in.

Grasp screen firmly and flip

Grab both firmly together, keeping them together and flip the whole thing over so now the screen is on top, the foamboard is on the bottom and the sheet of home made paper stays right between them.

Separate paper from screen

Now you can gently lift the screen off the paper. Tap and rap on the screen. This will help the separation process a lot.

The paper is separated

There you go! The paper looks great! Now we will continue with the drying process. It is still sensitive so handle it gently.

Towel it and iron it to dry

Place a soft and absorbent towel on the paper and iron it. Set the iron on high but no steam.

Iron the paper

Then you can lift the towel and iron directly on the paper. Monitor the temperature and reduce as needed so you don't scorch the paper. And note that the wetter the paper the more the iron will grab and stick. But as the paper dries it gets lighter and color and the iron will slide very smoothly on it.

Put weights on it

Now the final step. Put it between sheets of paper towel or something absorbent like couching paper. Put a firm material over it like foamboard or cardboard and weigh it down. Let it sit over night.

And that's it. Your paper is done! If there are small wrinkes or waves in it you can spray it with water and press it again.

The paper is done
