Sculptures at the Piazza Della Signoria in Florence Italy

It is a spectacular spot in Florence Italy that has a whole lot of amazing and beautiful sculptures going all the way back to the Renaissance. I have a short video for you and lots of pictures of the sculptures.

The three arched structure here is the Loggia dei Langi and it is an open air sculpture gallery that includes antique and renaissance art.

Here is a 30 second video panning around the Piazza.

Here is a drawing of the piazza circa 1650, which is a copy of an illustration from about 1500. Much of this picture is still the same today. For example you can see the three arched Loggia dei Longi on the right, and off in the distance on the left is The Duomo, and the dark building with the tall rectangular tower is the Palazzo Vecchio (Town Hall).

Here is a picture of the Palazzo Vecchio (The lion sculpture is a famous Medici Lion)

Let's take a look at some of the sculptures in the piazza.

Ajax carrying the body of Achilles. This is also known as Menelaus carrying the body of Patroclus.

Heracles and Nessus by GIambologna
Perseus with the head of Medusa.
The abduction of the Sabine Women.

Replica of Michelangelo's David.
The fountain of Neptune
Hercules and Cacus
