I like Providence. It is a small big city and it has a whole lot of New England flavor. It also has a thriving arts and culture life. There are so many world class Universities there including Brown University, Providence College and The Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). The page you are on right now is mostly Providence oriented. If you are specifically looking for the RISD museum stuff that is right here: The RISD museum (Coming) |
I had a morning appointment at the Veterans Hospital in Providence so I figured I could capitalize on this and spend the rest of the day exploring Providence -which I did. And the highlight of my day was a visit to the RISD museum - which much to my surprise has a Van Gogh! Yay! I am obsessed with Vincent Van Gogh and during my travels around the country I always make it a point to track down and view any available works of his. I have been cataloging them right here: Van Gogh's in America Anyhoo, back to Providence and RISD In Providence there are several small rivers that converge. This means that there are lots of beautiful little walking spots and parks along these riverways. And in the following picture you can see a whole lot of round silver objects floating in the river. Those are braziers. And they are part of a series of events called waterfire. On scheduled Saturdays from May through November those fire pots are lit up. This gives you insight into how the city is very arts and culture oriented.
