Leon Spain

Leon is an amazing Spanish city.

I have spent a fair amount of time in Spain. And I have seen a wide variety of cities and towns and I have to say that Leon is probably the most cosmopolitan of them all.

I am not sure if "cosmopolitan" has a negative connotation to it. And I sure don't mean it in a negative way. I mean it in a very positive way. I mean that it is a very beautiful, very clean and doing very well.

It has a large district that is very old fashioned. Much of that section dates a couple of hundred years old. And it maintains that flavor. There is only foot traffic. No automobiles in this section.

And, the cobblestone streets are lined with upscale boutiques, shops, cafes, and restaurants. It is very tourist friendly and slightly upscale. And it is quite wonderful.I would describe it as a nice slice of old Europe.

If you are thinking about visiting Spain I highly recommend spending some time in Leon.

Here are some pictures and some highlights of what is there. This first picture gives you a really good sense of how wonderful and pedestrian friendly this city is. I am only about 100 yards from the Leon cathedral. It is right behind us.

The centerpiece of Leon is the Cathedral. I love this picture. It looks like something a professional photographer took, or maybe even a postcard. But it isn't either. I took this picture. Yup!

I was on a pilgrimage across Spain and spent a couple of days in Leon. I got this picture, with no people in it because it was early in the morning, around 6 am.. I was continuing on with my pilgrimage and wanted to make one more pass by the cathedral.

I have more pictures of the cathedral here.

I also have pictures inside the cathedral right here.

Another beautiful building in Leon is the Gaudi Building. It was designed and built by Antonio Gaudi. And it is now a museum you can visit. And... if you loo real close at the picture you can see a figure sitting on a park bench right in front of the building. Tht's actually a bronze statue of gaudi. I will show a picture of it.

This is a bronze map of the city. It is right in a park near the cathedral and the Gaudi building.

And, walking around the city you are going to find lots of little cafes like this.

And,for over a thousand years there has been a pilgirmage where people walk across the entire country of Spain. It is called the way of Saint James. And this pilgrimage passes right through the city.
