That one moment in my travel around America

I was in the city of Hurricane. It is in Utah. And I stayed in a motel there for five days. I was trying to catch up on my video editing and various writing.

Every morning I would walk over to a nearby little restaurant for breakfast. I liked it because it had large windows and I could just look out on the city.

One morning I was sitting at the window having breakfast and watched as a homeless couple, man and woman, in their thirties, walked across the parking lot to the restaurant, pushing a shopping cart full of what looked like all their worldly possessions.

They got close to the restaurant door and they hugged each other long and deep then briefly kissed. He then walked into the restaurant to place an order while she waited outside with the possessions.

It was a few moments of tenderness and simple love. And I thought to myself that even though this couple has very little in terms of "things". They have something that so many people in our modern world desires yet lacks.

We spend so much time in this materialistic world chasing after things that, in the end, don't matter - we tend to not spend time on cultivating the relationships that evoke that wonderful, open, honest, and heartfelt hug that I witnessed that morning.

In my trip around America I pretty much saw it all, Yellowstone, New Orleans, New York, Niagara Falls, Dallas, Redwood Forest, Grand Canyon, Van Gogh Paintings, The Biltmore, Mount Rushmore, on and on. And that was all very wonderful. And of all those things, this brief little moment of me sitting in a little restaurant, staring out the window at a city called Hurricane, was my most precious moment of the whole trip.
