At the end of my ten week pilgrimage in Europe I had an extra ten days that were unplanned so I returned to Rome. And it was an absolutely amazing experience for me. It took me two days to get there so I had a full Eight Days in Rome.

This page has a little bit of fun with those eight days in Rome.

In 1951 a classic comedy came out of hollywood entitled "Roman Holiday" starring Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. It was Audrey Hepburns American Film debut and it was a tremendous success earning multiple academy awards including one for Audrey as best actress.

Anyway, it set the bar for Rom/coms.

The film takes place in Rome and thoughout the film our lead characters visit many of the famous attractions that it has to offer.
And, I kind of did the same thing. I visited many of the sites that Audrey Hepburn visited in the movie, albeit many years later. Let's take a look.

Notice that fountain. It is often mistaken as the Trevi fountain. But it isn't. It is the Fontana della Barcaccia. (Fountain of the boat) . It was inspired by a flood in Rome and the designer saw a half sunken boat in the flood. So he made a fountain that reflects this. And it is in the movie in an iconic moment for Audrey Hepburn.

They did go to the Trevi Fountain though. More about that below.

Another stop that Audrey and Gregory made was to an ancient sculpture called "The Mouth of Truth". The legend goes that while your hand is in the mouth you have to tell the truth. If you do not, it will bite your hand off.

Visit to the Colosseum

Here is two pictures, The first one is Audrey and Gregory Peck on a Vespa outside the colosseum. The second is her inside.

I didn't go inside. I couldn't get a ticket that worked with my schedule but here is the outside. It is impressive.

There are three superstars in the movie Roman Holiday: Gregory Peck, Audrey Hepburn, and Rome. And a lot of Rome was showcased by Audrey and Gregory riding around the city on a Vespa.
