A little bit about Philadelphia

I spent three days there, and I did a whole lot of walking around. Everything on my goal list was within walking distance and I got a motel (Days Inn) in a great location and at a great price.

And the people of Philadelphia were great. Walking around so much I talked to a lot of people, just out on the streets. And anybody I talked to was friendly and took the time to chat. It was great. So.. kudos to the friendliness of the Philadelphians. (Making me a cheese steak)

And everywhere I went I was struck by the contrapunction between the old and the new. I would see a 200 year old building that had in the background a modern skyscraper.

My main goal for this trip was the Philadelphia Museum of Art. They are having a special exhibition of two of Van Gogh's Sunflower paintings.

I had to get a picture of the famous Rocky statue outside the museum.

Here are the two Sunflower paintings. One of them is owned by the museum and the other is on loan from another museum.

They also have three other Van Goghs in the museum.

And... there is another museum nearby (The Barnes Foundation). It has seven Van Goghs! So I took a walk over there. It's only a fifteen minute walk.

And I was, admittedly, a little bit shocked by how amazing this museum is. They have an absolutely beautiful collection. And it is laid out in a such a unique way. It is a series of small rooms that are very intimate and stuffed to the brim with masterpieces. This next picture gives you an idea of all this. What you see here is one wall. And that is almost the whole wall so you can feel that the room is small.

Another thing I had to do while in Philadelphia was to get an authentic Philly Cheese steak. (In three days I ended up having two of them from two different places)
