The Fermentation Vigorosity Indicator
Here is a neat little procedure that a fellow mead maker has created for figuring out the health and progress of his mead. He uses a stopwatch to gauge how long it takes the balloon style airlock to fill back up. Gives a rough indicator of how vigorous the ferment is. The important thing about this is the kind of thinking that a mead maker can use if you want to keep things cheap. He calls this MacGyver style mead making! And I think its great.
