The Spare Room Meadery

Meadery

Here is a shot of one corner of my little spare room meadery. Lots of testing going on. Notice how each bottle has a sheet of paper with it. This is so I can track what is in the carboy and what I am doing with it. Got some delicious flavors and well , just having a lot of fun with it. Some of them are quite delicious already.

I run them in cycles so they mature at different times and the hardest part is the waiting! But that is a lesson in Mead - you have to be patient.

Couple of things of note:

  • I keep a thermometer in the room so I can carefully monitor and adjust the temperature
  • Have a little rack on the wall of santized tool (Wrapped in plastic so they stay sanitized.)

This room stays cool and in complete darkness if you keep mead around the house I recommend you keep it in a dark cool place. If you keep it out in the open like this you should cover it with a black plastic bag with the airlock poking through.

Make a peach or pineapple fruit mead

If you have always wanted to make a fruit mead (melomel) you might want to check this tutorial out. I take you through the whole process from start to finish including bottling. Make a Peach or Pineapple Melomel

How about some still sealed bottles of mead that are 64 years old? Yup, I have pictures right here. And.... this meadery is long defunct. If you know a little bit about mead you might want to take a look. Maybe you can offer some insight into it. I am looking for help with these beauties. Check out the Gulval Mead
