Persian Pink Silk Tree, Mimosa tree, (Albizia Julibrissin)

Albizia julibrissin is a species of tree in the family Fabaceae, native to southwestern and eastern Asia. This tree is a fast-growing, small to medium sized deciduous tree that typically grows in a vase shape to 20-40' tall with a spreading, flattened, often umbrella-like crown. It has been widely planted in the U.S. as an ornamental and has escaped cultivation and naturalized in many areas of the southeastern U.S. and California. Flowers are fragrant and attractive to bees. Zone: 6 to 9 Bloom Time: June to July. Full sun to part shade Easily grown in average, medium, well-drained soils in full sun to light shade. Best flowering in full sun.

It is easy to care for and durable which makes it a good bonsai for a beginner.

Albizia Julibrissin Mimosa Bonsai Persian Pink Silk Tree 10 seeds Rare

Here are the seeds:

The seeds

Step 1: On Sep 5, 2015 I started them by pouring hot water on them. This is what the instructions call for. And then to let them sit in this for 24 hours. This is important. The seeds have a hard shell protecting them. The hot water and the soaking softens them up and activates them.

Add warm water

Step 2: Sept 6, 2015

The seeds are germinating

Ok! 24 hours later and I have taken them out of the water. Look at that! Some signs of germination. I like it!!

Plant the seeds

I planted the seeds in potting soil by lightly placing them on top then covering with about 1/8 inch of soil.

Label the pots

I spread the seeds among three different pots. And The pots have water trays which makes it very easy to keep the moisture correct. Any excess water will run out and into the dish. But, staying there in the dish means the water can also wick up into the pot as the soil dries.

So, that's it for this step. I will add to this page as anything changes or happens.

NextI do have updates on this project, continue and check out the pics here

Organic potting soil

I used an Organic potting soil that is designed for good water retention. Miracle-Gro 71678127 Nature's Care Organic Potting Mix with Water Conserve, 8-Quart
