While walking around the Walters Museum I struck up a conversation with one of the security guards. I asked her about any local sites I should visit. She told me to visit the Peabody library right next door. |
And I wasn't disappointed. The inside of this library is astonishingly beautiful. It is something right out of a movie. I am an absolute bibliophile - been so my whole life. And to be honest with you I got a little choked up when I walked into this library. Why don't we revere libraries anymore? Why are our book all turning to digital? This is a functioning library and there were a lot of people there actually reading and studying so there are rules and I was very considerate of others. I only walked around the first floor and discreetly took some pictures. And below is a picture of a shelf of books entitled "War of the Rebellion - Official records of the Union and Confederate Armies". That is quite amazing.
1. The Walters Museum - which included a whole bunch of wonderful things including the illuminated manuscripts, a 17 century Flemish chamber of wonders, and a great exhibition of Medieval arms and armor. 2. The Edgar Allan Poe House (And his grave site) - 3. The famous Graffiti Alley - This was an unexpected surprise for me. 4. The Basilica of the Assumption - It's a beautiful cathedral but I was very much surprised by the fact that it was not built in the gothic style. 5. Overview of Baltimore - More pictures, observations and my thoughts on this wonderful yet gritty city. |
