A couple of interesting categorizations of the papaya is that even though it grows on what looks like a tree it is categorized as a plant. And even though it is enormous like other fruit it is categorized as a berry! It is native to Central and South America. The largest suppliers and shippers or papaya are India, The Dominican Republic, India, Mexico and Brazil.
I always like the word "payapa". It has a beautiful melodic ring to it. But I had never actually tried one! I finally got to try one. Yay! It's pretty simple to prepare and not difficult to cut. Cut it any way you like and discard the seeds. Don't eat the skin. It is not strong in flavor. It is very mild but I can't describe it any way other than tasting like papaya! It's a tropical fruit and it is soft in consistency. You can cube it or eat it by scooping it out with a spoon -after you scoop out the seeds.
