Walking through the produce department of Stop & Shop I spotted these sour oranges. I had never heard of such a thing so I just had to give them a try - I bought two of them.
Will's Review: This fruit is true to it's name. It is about a 50/50 combination of an orange and lemon. It is not as sour as a lemon. So, it is actually a rather pleasing fruit. But... I don't know if it is true for all sour oranges but the ones I bought had much more rind than either a lemon or an orange. You can see this in the picture. The peel and all the inner network of "cartilege" is pretty thick. So, you can't peel it and eat it. You have to slice it and enjoy it that way. Nonetheless it was a great experience. Give them a try.
About the Sour Orange: A sour orange (Citrus × aurantium), also known as Seville, bitter, or bigarade orange, is a tart, thick-skinned, and aromatic citrus fruit native to Southeast Asia . Too bitter to eat raw, they are essential for marmalades, marinades (like mojo), and liqueurs. They are commonly used in Latin American and Mediterranean cuisine. Drug interaction Notice: Just like the grapefruit this fruit may have serious drug interactions with medicines such as statins, blood pressure meds, some anthihistamines and some anti-anxiety drugs.
