I never heard of an Ugly Fruit! "Ugly" is a noun. It is actually what this fruit is named. But, I wouldn't define the "ugly' as an adjective. It's not ugly.

it comes out of Jamaica and it is also known as a Jamaican tangelo. I have also seen it spelled as "ugli fruit".

Anyway I stumbled upon a crate of them in my local grocery store and I just had to pick one up.

It is about the size of a small coconut - so it is rather larger as far as fruit goes.

Some tips when purchasing: THe shinier the fruit the fresher it is and the heavier the fruit the more juice it has in it. So.. look for shiny and heavy!

You peel it like an orange. Stick your thumb in the bottom of it (the opposite side from the stem) and pull away the peel.

Will's Review: The peel is very thick and easy to peel. And it's taste is very similar to a grapefruit but a bit sweeter likened to a tangerine. Nice fruit. I like it but I only ate one segment. I take blood pressure medication and I am not allowed to eat grapefruit and this fruit is very similar to grapefruit. Best to be safe!
