This is a tutorial on how to make a wizard's pipe like the one that Gandalf uses. Fun and easy little polymer clay project. Polymer clay is a type of clay that is soft and easy to use. And once you have sculpted your project you bake it in the oven and it hardens. I also have a video for this project at the bottom of the page. Will has a youtube channel with over 750 videos on projects you can make. Check it out right here |

Materials Needed for this project:
Let's Get Started!Cut two pieces of wire around nine or ten inches in length and twist them together like this.
Get a piece of aluminum foil that is twelve inches square and fold it like this, this is consecutive fold. The end result you see here is twelve inches in length and about an inch and a half wide.
Curl that foil piece into a circle shape like this and tape it. This is the bowl of your pipe. Put some tape on the inside too.
Now with a square of aluminum foil form a bowl shape like this.
Push that bowl shape into the first piece so it forms a nice bowl at the bottom. And tape it all in place, both inside and outside.
Now, curve the twisted wire just a little bit so it has a nice pipe stem look to it and insert it into the bowl near the bottom.
And hot glue them together. Put hot glue both on the outside and on the inside. Make it nice and strong. This is a weak point of the pipe and we don't want it to break.
Roll out some thin sheets of polymer clay like this. About an 1/8 of an inch thick.
And wrap the bowl with it. Do multiple pieces if you need to, do small pieces to patch things up. you can do the inside too but that is optional. It will increase your baking time because it is thicker.
And do the same with the stem of the pipe. Roll out a thin piece of polymer clay and wrap the stem with it.
Now smooth it all out. You can make it as smooth as you want. We left a little bit of irregularity in it. That makes it look like hand-carved wood.
Ok! Let's continue with the tutorial
