Halloween is a great time for costumes candy and fun. At this time of year .everyone remembers the treat, but what about the trick. In this tutorial we make a magic popping trick or treat bag. This makes for a great candy bag with a spooky surprise! I also have a video tutorial on how to make this at the bottom of this page.

Here's What you'll need:
First, you make your spring mechanism. Start by cutting out a large piece of foam board and a small piece. Remember to make the large piece small enough to fit into the bag you plan on using.
Make a hole at the top of the larger piece. Also make a hole in the smaller piece about half way down the middle. This will be for your rubber band.
Now secure the smaller piece to the larger piece leaving yourself an inch or two from the top.
Next, cut the rubber band in half and put it through both holes you just made. Tie a knot so that it is secure and tape up any of the loose dangling pieces of the rubber band. Remember to test to see if your mechanism works and fits right in the bag. Keep in mind the room you will need for your monster.
Here's the point where you create your monster. For this tutorial we use a spider but you can create any monster you want. Start, by Gluing one of the ping pong balls to the front side of your foam board mechanism.
Now put a small indentation in the back of the second ping pong ball for the body and attach to the back of the first one.
Next, paint your spider black and seal it so none of the paint chips off.
Now we move on to some of the features of our monster. First you're going to want to glue on your eyes. In this tutorial we use wiggly eyes, but red beads or even paint will work just as well.
For the legs we use pipe cleaners. In this tutorial the legs on each side are twisted together in pairs and then those pairs were twisted together for a solid set of legs that you can now glue on. Let the glue dry and you are done with your spider. You can also add other features if you want, because in the end it's up to you what you create.
Now to glue your spider and spring mechanism to the bag. Make sure the larger piece is as close and flat as possible to the side of the bag. Remember the bag needs to be stiff in order for your monster to be secure enough. If you don't have a good enough bag you can make your own out of construction paper.
To make your bag all you need is a rectangular piece of construction paper. Here we folded the bottom similarly to how you would wrap one side of a gift. Once complete, glue the bottom and let it dry. When, you have your bag and your monster together you are finally done and ready to start tricking people!
