In this part of the tutorial we paint the shield and put it all together. |
Let's paint the shield. I used H2O latex low odor paint. Cherry Red. And I did it in three different layers. I first did a thin layer like this to start the red. Then a second layer. Then a third layer to finish it off. It looks great. I love this shade of red. This picture was taken in full sunlight so you can't get a good sense of the red. But I will show you another pic. Next paint the Cardboard Boss you made a gold color. I used Rustoleum Gold Metallic paint that I bought at the Home Depot. Once it dries you can trim the boss down to a cleaner shape with scissors. Apply glue to the boss and glue it to the center of the shield. I used hot glue. Here is the final touch on the shield. I cut foam board strips that are an inch and a half thick and painted them gold. Then I glued them to the edge of the shield all the way around. And that's it! the Roman Scutum is complete!
Make a Roman Gladiusust some foamboard or cardboard and I give you the template which makes it so easy. Make a Roman Gladius.
Make a Viking Shield You can make this with foamboard or cardboard. Either way it comes out graet and is double layered for strength. Made just like they made the real shields.
Make a Viking Sword and Helmet This is an easy project that you can make. And you only need a few supplies. I even give you the template for the sword. How to Make a Viking Sword and Helmet
