In this tutorial I show you how to easily make the Grey staff. And you can make just the staff. It is pretty easy. You just need some foam and a long stick or broom handle.

I also take this to another level because the staff does have a glowing crystal in it. I n this tutorial I also show you how to make the glowing crystal.

Stuff Used :

• A wooden dowel about 5 feet in length and about 1 1/4 inches thick. You can get this at Home Depot. You can also use a rake handle or broomstick for this. You can even use pvc piping. Which is a plastic plumbers pipe.
• About two cubic feet of some kind of foam. This is to carve the head of the staff. I use a pink foam called Foamular. Most carvable foam is quite good for this.
• Black Paint, grey paint
• Some glue or hot glue gun
• To Make the Crystal:
• A piece of foam to carve our crystal
• Some amazing mold putty for making the mold (Alumilite Amazing Mold Putty Kit, 0.66-Pound )
• Easy Cast for casting the crystal (Environmental Technology 16-Ounce Kit Casting' Craft Casting Epoxy, Clear )
• Also some kind of small light like a christmas tree bulb
• A battery that will light up the light and a switch.

Let's Get Started!

Let's start by making the crystal.

We are going to cast the crystal in a product called easy cast. But to do that we first need to make a mold that we can cast into.

We start by making a faux crystal out of foam.

Ok, the crystal is carved. We are going to copy the end of it shown between the two black lines. The rest is just so it can be easily handled and worked.

Next we are going to use a product called Amazing Mold Putty to make a mold around our foam crystal.

Alumilite Amazing Mold Putty Kit, 0.66-Pound

Amazing mold putty has two different colors of clay like material. Mix together even amounts of each of these.

Mold it around the foam crystal like this. And let the amazing mold putty set. It turns into a rubber like material and it will be ready in about 20 minutes.

Now you should remove the foam crystal from the mold so we can pour easy cast into it.

But, it might be difficult to get out without tearing or damaging the mold. That is ok. Because we used foam we can easily dissolve it with acetone (Nail Polish Remover)

Acetone quickly and easily dissolves most types of foam and styrofoam.

Pour it onto the foam and into the rubber mold and the foam will melt away. Now use a tool to pick out the remnants and strands of foam. Rinse it out with soapy water until the inside of the mold is clean.
