This is a fun foamboard project. You just need a few supplies and you can even motorize it like I did.

This is a fun little automated project. It is the skyhook from the video game BioShock. I originally wasn't too sure about making this project. It seems a little too complex for foam board. And as I built it I still wasn't sure. But.. as it developed and when it was painted I was very happy with how it looks. There is no template for this project though. It is a bit too complicated. But if you want to make one I have all the basic steps right here for you. I do have a youtube video on how to make this project. It is at the bottom of this page.
I printed up a nice picture of the skyhook then drew it out on foam board. There are several layers to this but I started with an over all drawing of the whole thing. From there I can add smaller pieces like the handle.
For some of the parts, particularly the part that rotates I made a few different versions out of paper. This way I could see how it works and see if the size was right.
Once I had the right shapes and sizes I made them out of foamboard and glued them together. This the rotator part made out of foam board. It looks great. I actually used toothpics in them so they could move and spin on the center piece. Lets continue with the tutorial
The video on how to make this skyhook.
