How to Make Origami Page 3 Let's finish up this swan

This is part 3 of the how to make an origami swan. If you have come to this page directly from a search engine or a link you can start the tutorial here: How to make origami Part 1

Step 18

This is where we left off on the previous page.

Now we are going to do something called a hood fold. This can be a bit tricky but I will walk you through the procedure.

Step 19

The picture here on the left shows the fold line (dotted line) This white section of the neck is composed of two layers. You are going to take the top layer and fold it over to the right. And you are going to take the bottom layer and fold it under to the right.

Step 20

It will help a lot if you put your finger in between the two layers. The arrows show how the top layer gets folded over to the right and how the bottom layer gets folded under to the right.

Step 21

Here is what it looks like when the fold is complete.

prefold

If you are having a lot of trouble with that previous hood fold you can prefold the neck as shown in this picture. Take the neck and simply fold it over to the right along the dotted line - then fold it back. This gives you a crease that will help in creating the hood fold.

Step 23

Now do another hood fold at the top to form the head of the swan. And curve out the wings a little bit.

The completed swan

Your Swan is complete.

BIg paper

Big Origami Paper - I am partial to the larger sheets of paper because I have big hands and big sheets are easier for me to handle. This is something to consider. And, if you are an absolute beginner you might consider using large sheets. This paper is 12x12 inches. Roylco R15208 Really Big Origami Paper
