I absolutely love stained glass windows. They are something ethereal - almost of another world. And they are perfectly in place inside a church, cathedral, or basilica. And I have visited and enjoyed many of them. |
There is a beautiful medieval artistry to stained glass windows. They have a very distinct artistic style. And it has been that way for a milennium. And there is a distinct style to stained glass windows that are more contemporary in design. They are nice, but they definitely don't have the hallowed grandeur of the old ones. There is something very different about the design, and the glass that just makes them lacking in something. My intent here is not to criticise modern stained glass. But I think you can feel the difference too. Just take a look at these examples. One of the things that does make sense about these different styles of windows is that they depict different times. The medieval style windows depict scenes from the bible. And the contemporary windows depict modern scenes. Here are several different windows in the same cathedral. It is St. Dunstan's cathedral on Prince Edward Island in Canada. I have more about St. Dunstan's here
