In this part of the tutorial we bake the polymer clay sword. Part 1 of this tutorial is here
|
About baking the polymer clay. The clay comes with directions for baking so follow those instructions. We used Original Sculpey and this is the process we followed. They are all pretty similar though.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.
Cover your sword in a pile of flour or corn flour.
And put it into the oven for seven minutes.
After the allotted time remove it from the oven and let it cool. Then clean it off with a soft paintbrush.
Let's Finish it by painting it!
TIPS: If you have an oven thermometer use it to check your oven or toaster oven. Oven's can vary a lot! If you don't have regular flour for the baking you can use corn flour. IF you are having trouble with finger prints on your clay you can rub a little flour or corn flour on your finger and then easily rub out the fingerprints. About the baking time. There is a bit of guess work to this but it is better to take it out a bit early rather than a bit late. Over cooking it can make it brittle.
