This is the drill from the game BioShock. This is a really fun project. I had so much fun with this. And, you just need a few basic materials for this. And it really works (spins). You power it with a cordless drill. I show you how. And I also have a video on how to make this. It is at the bottom of this page. |
Ok, let's start making this project. The biggest challenge is that cone shaped drill auger. You do this by laying out four sheets of poster board and taping them together. Then use a string and a marker to scribe out a half circle just like you see in the picture. The bigger the better. Then cut that half circle out.
This is a bit hard to describe you can get it in a minute of trying. Hold it like this then fold it into a cone shape. You can see this exact process by watching the video at the bottom of this page.
This picture shows how easy it is to do. You can see it forming a cone shape with barely moving one hand. There you go. Now tape this whole thing up nice and tight so it stays in the shape of a cone.
Now, place that cone on a sheet of foamboard or cardboard, trace out the circle and cut it out. Now put a dowel in the center of the cone. make sure it goes all the way to the point of the cone and tape it there. And it should stick out on this end at least a foot so we can get the handle and the drill on it. Fill that cone with crumpled newspaper for strength.
Punch a hole in the middle of the disk and put it right over that dowel. Now tape the whole thing in place nice and tight.
Now you can test it.
Now, on a sheet of posterboard draw a spiral like this. And then cut it out.
Now you can attach that spiral to the paper cone. The center of the spiral attaches to the poing and the whole thing just spirals down the cone. Tape it all in place nice and strong so it can withstand the spinning. Ok, continue on to the next page and lets finish this thing off! The video is right below if you want to watch it before continuing on.
BioShock lets you do the impossible as you explore a mysterious underwater city. When your plane crashes, you discover Rapture - an underwater Utopia torn apart by civil war. Caught between powerful forces and hunted down by genetically modified "splicers" and deadly security systems, you have to come to grips with a deadly, mysterious world filled with powerful technology and fascinating characters. As little girls loot the dead, and biologically mutated citizens ambush you at every turn. Now you're trapped, caught in the middle of a genetic war that will challenge both your capacity to survive and your moral allegiance to your own humanity. Make meaningful and mature decisions that culminate in the grand question - do you exploit the innocent survivors of Rapture to save yourself - or risk all to become their savior?
