This is a tutorial on how to make the War Axe from the Elder Scrolls Online Game. It is very similar to a halberd. You just need some foamboard or cardboard and a wooden dowel or broomstick. I have a template that makes it easy for you. You can download and print up the template right here I also have a video tutorial on this project. That is at the bottom of this page. |
This axe is suitable for dragon fighting, I think.
What you will need for this project:
The process I start with is to draw out a few sketches on paper. Once I got the right look and shape of it I then draw it out actual size on foamboard. You can do this too if you don't want to use my template. But the template makes it so easy. Print that up!
Print out the template and cut out the pieces. Assemble the three pieces that make up the axe head and tape them together.
Place those pieces on your foamboard or cardboard and trace them out. See the two pieces that look like houses? You need two of each of those so trace those pieces twice. Then go ahead and cut everything out.
Measure two inches from the end of your dowel or broomstick and glue the axe head right there. The ruler in the picture shows you what I mean by two inches from the end. Make sure the curved end of the axe head is the part that is at this end of the broom stick, not the angled end of the axehead. Hot glue gun is best for this. But if you only have regular glue that is fine. You just have to support it in place while it dries.
Now glue the two house shaped pieces onto the axe head just like in the picture. Be sure to flip the axe over and glue two house pieces on the other side too. That's why we made two of each.
Now glue the pick end of the axe onto the handle exactly opposite the axe head. The edges should line up neatly to make it appear like it is one piece of metal that passes through the dowel.
Ok, the major part of the axe is done. Let's do the detail work
