Valheim and the Great Wave

Thanks for coming over from youtube! I just started this webpage. The tutorial is coming. But... the template is ready. You can download it and make your own Valheim and the Great wave scene box.

The template is right here

  • If you want to learn more about The Great Wave off Kanegawa it is on wikipedia here:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Wave_off_Kanagawa
  • Valheim the video game is here: https://www.valheimgame.com/
  • The pdf packet to make this exact scene box is here: Valheim and the Great Wave

This project starts out as a simple scene box. The template for this is in the downloadable packet. You can use this empty box to create your own scene or you can use it to create the Valheim Great Wave scene.

The box itself is composed of six parts, all in the template. I recommend you put together five of the parts, not putting on the top until you have inserted and glued in the various parts. Then you finish it by putting on the top part.

You can make any kind of a scene in your box. The secret to making it interesting is having multiple layers of depth and in different places in the box. This next picture shows you the six parts to this project. Number 6 is the background and that is an important part of any scene box.

You can make your scene box simply with printer paper. You print up the packet, cut out the pieces and put it all together. But... regular printer paper is a bit flimsy. The box and scene will not be durable.

You have several options to make your box better! First off is that you can put a thicker paper in your printer. I use a cardstock in mine. I have purchased and use this exact cardstock from amazon. 110 paper has a decent thickness to it and it fits in regular printers.

There is something special about cardstock like this. I use it all the time. It's a thick paper. If you never used cardstock you will be pleasantly surprised by it. And.... if you don't want to order it on amazon they carry it at Walmart right along with regular printer paper.

Wausau Exact 110, Index Cardstock, 250 Count, Ivory, 8.5 X 11 Inches

For this Valheim and the Great wave project you print up the template:

And cut out the parts

And if you printed up on regular printer paper you can strengthen all the pieces by gluing them to stiffer stock like cereal box cardboard, manila file folders or posterboard. I use gluestick. It is better than a liquid glue because there is less risk of the paper wrinkling.

Then affix it to your thicker stock.

And cut it out again.

Then you can fold the flaps on the edges and bottom and glue it into the box.

I have other scene box projects too!

The Lost Van Gogh Scene Box

I show you how to make this scene box from a lost Vincent Van Gogh Painting. And I give you the template. Print it up and put it together. The Lost Van Gogh Scene Box

Make a chamber of wonders

A chamber of wonders was a 17th century Flemish thing. People would collect up wonders from around the world and display them. I visited one, and have pictures and a video. And, turned it into a paper diorama project. You can download it, print it, and make it here: Make a Chamber of Wonders

Make an 18th century diorama also known as a paper theater

In the Eighteenth century this type of layered diorama was all the rage. It is composed of six layers to give the perception of depth. I spotted one in a museum and decided to make one. But... rather than making the scene of an 18th century garden I decided to use photographs from my travels to make the Biltmore gardens from the famous Biltmore Castle. Make an 18th century diorama.

I love this project. It is a paper project you can make and it combines two very different things: An ancient Japanese woodprint, and a modern video game. I call it the art of contrapunction. Make the scene box of Valheim and the Great Wave
