Make a cardboard box skee-ball game

This is a version of the classic skee-ball game you used to see in arcades and at amusement parks. But instead of rolling a ball into the various score boxes we shoot a paper ball using a catapult.

This is also one of my fastest and easiest projects. You can have this done in less than an hour.

This is a version of the classic skee-ball game you used to see in arcades and at amusement parks. But instead of rolling a ball into the various score boxes we shoot a paper ball using a catapult.

This is also one of my fastest and easiest projects. You can have this done in less than an hour.

We use an Amazon B0 sized box which is 17 x 11 x 11. You have a lot of choice as to which box size you use but the best box for this is something that is rectangular.

And I use three scoring boxes for this version. You can add more boxes for more points.

Two or more people play this game. You take turns and keep score. After a set number of shots the person with the highest score wins.

Note that I also have painted this project and renamed it "The Carnival Shoot". You can see that right here . Add some zing to your cardboard projects!

Tools and Materials:

  • 1 rectangular shaped box, the bigger the better. I use an Amazon size B0
  • A tool to cut the cardboard with
  • An adhesive like white glue or a hot glue gun
  • A little bit of masking tape to make the hinge of the catapult arm
  • A rubber band

Trim the box like this - cutting away the top part. And then we can use the top part to make the catapult arm and the various point scoring cups.

The catapult arm is made up of several cardboard pieces like this. The arm is three pieces glued in a stack. Each piece is 1 3/4 inches wide and 8 inches long.

Cut some smaller parts to make the cup that holds the paper ball.

The scoring pockets are three inches square. And they are respectively 3 inches, 4 inches, and 5 inches tall. You can tape them together or glue them together.

Glue together the pieces that make up the catapult arm. Notice the rubber band position. It goes right through the cardboard and is taped tight on the other side.

Tape the arm to the box. Any type of tape will work. It functions as a hinge.

Glue or tape the scoring pockets into the box and make a catapult projectile by crumpling up a half sheet of paper.

And that's it! You are ready to compete for the skee ball championship!
