You can just use a strip of thin plastic to make the clacker! And you might want to experiment with a few different things to get something that works right for you. |
But I will show you here something that will help your clacker to be louder. We use a small plastic cup as a resonating chamber. Think of it as the inside of a drum. It amplifies the sound. I cut a strip out of a small plastic cup. This strip is the clacker! It will be what snaps up against the toothpicks.
Next I cut a small slit in another plastic cup. I inserted that strip and glued it in place.
Hold the cup and strip in a suitable location and spin the wheel. Move it around so you get it to a great position where it clacks on the toothpicks and works very well. Mark that location then glue the cup right there.
Draw out an indicator on paper and glue it to the cup like this.
If you haven't done it yet go right ahead and paint it all including the mounting base. Have fun with it! Carnival colors work well.. Bright colors!
