Soursop

This is a soursop. It is a fruit and I had never heard of it before. I spotted in in my local neighborhood grocery store - a small specialty grocery store not a large chain store.

Will's Review: it is definitely a tropical fruit and it tastes kind of like a cross between a pineapple and a kiwi. Both of those fruits are strong in flavor but but soursop is mild in flavor. And the fleshy edible part in the center is soft and creamy, and sweet. You scoop it out with a spoon.

I talked to the owner of the small grocery store and he said you wait a few days for it to soften then you cut it open and enjoy it. So that's what I did.

While the flavor was interesting I wasn't really very enthusiastic about it. It's almost a creamy milky texture and for me that's a bit of a new thing to experience.

This is the definition of a rare and exotic tropical fruit. It grows on a tree that can reach 30 feet in height. And the actual soursop fruit can get up to ten pounds in weight!

It is grown in the tropical areas of Central and South America. And I think it is a rarity here in the United States. This is reflected in the price. The market I purchased it at has the price at $12.95 a pound.
