This is an easy sword making project. It is Senua's sword from the video game Hellblade. It turns out great and you don't need a lot of materials. I also have a video tutorial for this project at the bottom of the page. The template is all done and ready for you to download: |

Overview:
This is an easy foam board sword project. And it only requires a few materials including just one sheet of foamboard. Get a foam board that is 20x30 inches and 5mm thick. That's a standard size. You know I give you the template which makes it easy for you to get it looking just right. No need to worry about getting the shape right.
And I have a couple of new techniques in this tutorial and video including using a product called rub'n buff to paint the blade rather than using paint. And the guard of this sword has gems on it. If you don't have any gems that's ok. I show you how to make gems with a hot glue gun.
If you make this project email me a picture! I will email you a certificate of completion from stormthecastle.com You can print it up and hang it on the wall.

Tutorial starts here:
Print up the template.
And cut out the template parts.
Tape together parts 1,2,3 and 4. They make up the blade of the sword.
Lay that blade template on your sheet of foamboard and trace it. Do this twice with the blade template. You need two of those. Lay the other parts on the foam board and trace them also. You end up with twelve pieces.
Go ahead and cut all those pieces out.
Will's Tip on Cutting Foam board: Don't try to cut all the way through it in one swipe. Use a really sharp blade and make three passes. the first pass just cuts the top layer of paper. Second pass cuts the foam and the third pass cuts through the bottom layer of foam.
Let's continue with the tutorial and assemble the sword.

Tools and More:
Rub'n Buff - This is what I used on this sword rather than silver paint.
Will's Favorite Hot Glue Gun
Surebonder PRO2-100 100-Watt High Temperature Industrial Glue Gun, Black
X-acto designer series knife #1 blade
Elmer's Acid-Free Foam Boards, 20 x 30 Inches, 3/16-Inch Thick, Bright White, 2-Count (902015)
If you are looking for high quality, archive quality or you are looking for a backing for photographs you should use an acid free foam board It is more expensive per sheet though.
